Over 80 Assumptionist religious from 7 African countries have congregated in Moshi, Tanzania, for a significant gathering – the Vice-Provincial religious assembly and annual retreat. This event brings together members of the Augustinians of the Assumption, also known as Assumptionist Fathers and Brothers, to reflect on their mission and way of life.

In his inaugural speech, Rev. Fr. Bernard Yalla, the Vice Provincial, highlighted the importance of peace, unity, and togetherness within the Assumptionist community. He emphasized that these values are essential to their religious life and mission. The Assumptionists’ charism, rooted in the spirituality of St. Augustine and the founder, Fr. Emmanuel d’Alzon, emphasizes community, solidarity, and proclaiming the Good News.

However, Fr. Yalla also acknowledged potential threats to their religious life, encouraging the assembly to thoughtfully consider these challenges. By addressing these concerns, the Assumptionists can reaffirm their commitment to their vocation and mission, ensuring the congregation’s continued vitality.

The Assumptionists are dedicated to bringing about the Kingdom of God, within themselves and around them. Their mission is one of love and mercy, inspired by the Gospel and the example of Jesus Christ. Through their various ministries, including campus ministry, migrant ministry, parish and shrine ministry, and youth and vocation ministry, the Assumptionists seek to serve others and share the message of God’s love.

The Vice-Provincial assembly and retreat provide an opportunity for the Assumptionists to come together, reflect on their lives and ministries, and seek guidance for the future. Through prayer, discussion, and shared experiences, the participants can deepen their understanding of their vocation and mission, and emerge renewed and revitalized for the challenges ahead.
