Hundreds of parishioners and faithful thronged the Catholic Church of St. Francis of Asisi
Kikambala located in Kilifi County on Tuesday m orning, to witness the inauguration of their
new church.
In an exhilarating ceremony presided over by the Bishop of the Diocese of Garissa, His Lordship
George Nthaka, the Christians showed a deep contentment as Bishop Nkatha symbolically struck
the door of the new church. The striking of the door by the bishop’s crozier would symbolize the
release of graces, flowing abundantly to the faithful of Kikambala.

After opening of the church doors, Christians were invited inside to follow closely the
proceedings of the dedication rites. Ululations from members of Catholic Women Association
filled the air signifying a new dawn in the parish.
According to the parishioners, it took them 17 years to build the church and the event was a
special one and once in a lifetime to some.
“It is my first time to witness the unveiling of a new church which makes this day very
significant in my life,” a faithful posed showing fulfillment.

The parish founding priest, Fr. Reknad Mwanyasi on his part, said that the church would be of
great help to Christians hailing from around and who would be seeking spiritual nourishment. Fr.
Mwanyasi added that the church is officially a holy place given the blessing of the Tabernacle
and the placement of the Holy Eucharist in it.
“The inauguration of this church and its dedication to God symbolizes its holiness. It will now be
a place where Christians would come and pray and also in a special way, have a chat with God
through the blessed sacrament,” he said.

The parish council chairperson Peter Nzioki, lauded the parishioners for showcasing exemplary
dedication and support during the construction of the church. He asserted that before they
experienced hitches in worshiping space due to the growing number of Christians in the parish.
“We used to celebrate mass outside because the church we had would not contain all of us. The
challenges we faced before have now been evaded by the unveiling of this new church,”
chairperson Nzioki stated
